Ottawa

Ottawa is a pleasant and lively capital of Canada. It is located in eastern Ontario, on the river of the same name. Tourists can communicate with local residents in English or French.

Ottawa Rideau Canal is divided into Upper Town and Lower Town. The capital of Canada is clean, well planned and constitutes a cultural and political center. It may be the perfect place for a weekend trip or some longer holiday break.

The origins of the city date back to 1800, after which Ottawa has evolved as a place that provides wood for the British Navy. 31 December 1857 Ottawa became the capital of Canada, thanks to Queen Victoria. The city gained its present appearance in the 40s of the twentieth century.  It was then when a numerous of well-kept parks, multi-lane streets and broad avenues were created.

As metropolis Ottawa may boast of many attractions. Rideau Canal is an essential point in every trip around the city. In the winter it is converted into the largest and the longest ice rink in the world. During the summer there are many sailing boats . Other places worth seeing are: the Canadian Museum of Civilizaton, the museum of the history of mankind; Parliament Hill which is a chunk of buildings neogothic buildings formed in the years 1859-1875, Notre-Dame-the largest and the oldest Gothic church in Ottawa, the Supreme Court building located near Parliament Hill and built in the years 1939-1946. Art lovers should visit the National Gallery of Canada, which is one of the first art galleries in Canada and is located on Sussex Drive. You can see the works of Rubens, Cezanne`s, Warhol, Rembrandt, Dali, Matisse` s, Picasso and Monet there. Near the National Gallery are located: Museum of Natural History and the Museum of Aviation. Another very interesting place is the National Arts Centre with the opera, theater and ballet. Nature-loving travelers can opt for walking and cycling in the Gatineau Park. Ladies may be tempted to shop, in combining the old and the new Ottawa-Byward Market. Ottawa center is quite compact, and therefore the majority of the most popular tourist sites are easily accessible on foot.
